Part 2! We will be looking at the ICC section titled “Humanistic Ways of Knowing” Students must have a minimum of 3 credits in this course, but no more than 15. Included in this section are Spanish classes (Levels 3 and 4) and L202 (Literary Analysis). Spanish 3 is required for the ICC, but if you are interested in an Associate’s Degree, Spanish 4 is important because it helps you get to the required 60 credit hours! Amaranta Kemple teaches Spanish 3 and 4 and Keith Perin teaches L202. Spanish 3 and 4 are fast paced classes where the students not only learn vocabulary and grammar, but they also use it. Through the school year the students are involved in many projects where they apply in relevant situations what they are learning, like learning to drive, eating at a restaurant, planning a party, analyzing and writing books, writing emails and texts, etc. We use authentic resources that allow the students to learn about the Hispanic culture from Hispanic resources, magazines and books in Spanish, songs from Hispanic singers, videos from different Hispanic countries, etc. The students also practice regularly speaking Spanish with their classmates and through class presentations.

This is part 1 of a 6 part series! I will be highlighting each of the categories of the Indiana College Core and which RCHS teacher teaches them! The first category that I would like to spotlight is the Quantitative Reasoning (Math) section. Mr. Riddell and Mrs. Brashaber currently teach these courses. ICC students need a minimum of 3 credits and no more than 15 in this section. Mr. Riddell teaches Trig with Analytic Geometry and Quantitative Reasoning. Mrs. Brashaber teaches Finite Mathematics and Calculus I. Mrs. Brashaber has been teaching calculus for 20 years. She was affiliated with Vincennes University for 14 years and then switched to Ivy Tech this year for this Math 211 class. She has had students go on to careers in engineering, architecture, medicine, physical therapy, nursing, teaching, and many more. This class is often the first class that STEM students must take in their major, but there are many students who test out of any further math classes in their college career.

ICC Math Update
Every year eight schools come together to recognize some very outstanding individuals. We hosted close to 200 guests for the annual I-Star dinner and ceremony. It was truly team effort that made this night so special. Amy Fox made a slide show that scrolled throughout dinner and then was used as a major part of the ceremony. Jill Carmony and her students made the desserts for the dinner. Connie and Jeff Amos provided the pulled pork. Megan Alexander put together 11 juniors to help greet and guide throughout the evening. Liz Meek and Collin McCartt did everything behind the scenes to pull this night off. Our very own cafeteria staff members Misty Fields, Tina Huffman, and Sandy Abrams worked the dinner for us. But the night was about the students and teachers being honored. Thank you to Lindsay Chase with Chase'N Memories Photography for offering her services and taking AMAZING photos of all students! 1. Mallory Angle - Selected Pat Haney to recognize 2. Gabby Pavey - Selected Toni Schultz to recognize 3. Parker Wicker - Selected T.R. Campbell to recognize Congratulations to all of these Amazing Humans!!!!

Senate Bill 8 is currently passing through legislation that states that high schools need to offer the Indiana College Core by 2024-25 school year. RCHS is proud to say that we are ALREADY doing this and at $0 additional cost for our students! All of our ICC classes are given in person with no additional charges for the student. We have qualified dual credit certified teachers that are teaching these courses. RCHS is ahead of the curve and we are extremely lucky to have resources like Chris Bottomley and our guidance staff to help our students achieve this!

Please take a moment to read Brittney Corum's words that she shared with our staff yesterday. Brittney is our Life Skills teacher at the high school. What a great way to end the day yesterday and what a great reminder! "Congratulations on getting through SAT testing day. I wanted to share what my students did in class today, as a way to maybe brighten up your day and give you some inspiration. I also want to remind everyone. WE CAN MAKE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE when we are ourselves and work together."

TR and Heather Campbell were recognized as RCHS staff members of the month! TR and Heather truly create a family atmosphere in their band community and it was truly incredible to read how they have impacted others in the school. They do so much behind the scenes work at the high school! We are SO thankful to have them in our building and community. Please join me in congratulating Mr. and Mrs. Campbell!

Are you familiar with the 3 E's? At RCHS we want to ensure that we have something for every student to be successful after graduation. There are 3 options for students when they graduate high school- more commonly referred to as the 3 E's. Enroll, Enlist, and Employ. Do you plan to enroll in college or another post secondary training? The Indiana College Core could be for you! If you are thinking about enlistment, we have different military branches come to our school during lunches. Come up and talk to them about the opportunities they provide! If you are someone who is going straight into employment or apprenticeship after high school, you could make sure you are setting up your high school schedule to optimize that opportunity with work based learning experiences. If you are unsure about your plan, Indiana Career Explorer is a free online career exploration and graduation planning tool that you can take a look at different careers!

The majority of Juniors at RCHS will be taking the SAT School Day on Thursday, March 7th. March 7th is a black day and the blocks are rearranged to accommodate testing for Juniors and also keep regular classes operating as normal as possible. The blocks will be the same length of time, just in a different order that day (Block 8, Block 2, Block 6, Block 4) Mrs. Meek has sent emails to both parents/guardians and students regarding this day. Please encourage your student to check their emails if they do not regularly.

Rushville Consolidated High School is excited to offer our Fire and Rescue program starting in the 2024-25 School year! This program will be housed at RCHS next school year and it will move off campus for the 2025-26 school year. Fire and Rescue will be a two year program geared towards juniors and seniors. Next year, students will take two consecutive blocks of classes for the program at RCHS, Principles of Fire and Rescue and Fire Fighting Fundamentals. During year 1 of the program, these classes will not be everyday. Due to the block schedule at RCHS, the classes will be every other day. Year two of the program will have classes everyday and will consist of Advanced Fire Fighting and the Fire and Rescue Capstone Class which includes the EMT certification process. Students that complete the Fire and Rescue program will have opportunities for careers as: Firefighter/Paramedic, Fire Marshal, Wildland Firefighter, Fire Inspector, and Fire Investigator.
